DESIGNER’S INSPIRATION
Posted on 1-04-2013

This wonderful picture of Grace Kelly   might have been on Raf Simons’ inspiration board for his first Christian Dior SS||2013 ready to wear collection.

A very typical west coast bohemian-chic look of the end-sixties, photographed by Irving Penn for Vogue America and interpreted by model Ann Turkel who is wearing a Victor Jaris for Cuddlecoat cape , …and an outfit of Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for Saint Laurent Paris.

An amazing picture of sex symbol and fashion icon Marilyn Monroe  photographed by Bert Stern in 1962, year that tragically wil become the year of her death. This picture, with her holding a transparent foulard with a graphic pattern, could have been on the mood and inspiration board of the design team of Sportmax for the SS||2013 collection.

An extremely amusing picture of sex symbol and fashion icon Marilyn Monroe in a potato sack dress, created by costume designer Travilla and photographed by Earl Theisen in 1952 … could have been on the mood and inspiration board of Dolce&Gabbana for SS||2013.

Sixties maxi floral patterns are back at Gucci for SS||2012 … as also seen in this photo shoot by  by Richard Avedon for Vogue US in 1969, featuring top model Berkley Johnson in a transcendental attitude.

My Snapshots From Paris Fashion Week F/W 2013-14!
Posted on 18-03-2013

The fashion week in Paris is every time for me, a large puzzle of inspiration, creation, joy and a lot of fashion shows and appointments at the designer’s showrooms.

This time I stayed at FOUQUET’S Barriere, an elegant hotel with much history, renovated by JACQUES GARCIA, known for the beloved  always fashionable Hotel COSTES.

The invitations for the fashion shows  and the parties were many, but what stood out was the party of DIESEL  with EDUN. The whole event was hosted by Renzo Rosso together with Bono and Ali Hewson. The dinner was attended by guests such as Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Nicole Richie, Alexandra Richards, Ellen von Unwerth.
The restaurants were wonderful as always, but the restaurant LE GRAND VEFOUR merits a splurge for its winning combination of refind haute cuisine and atmospheric period interior with a gorgeous painted ceiling and ornate mouldings. Chef Guy Martin doses luxurious classicism with creativity in dishes.

I enjoyed the unique chocolate and mont blanc in ANGELINA and I brought home with me,  the new tea flavored with the famous mont blanc,  to remind me of the legendary Tea Room!!!!

Another hot spot this time was The Palais De Tokyo with a stylish cafe’, where you could meet the most artistic croud.

My new obsession are the clothes of ALEXIS MABILLE and his boutique at PALAIS POYAL! Another rising star designer is ALEXANDRE VAULTHIER, loved by of Carine Roitfeld, the bags of Sara Battaghlia and the BURAKUYAN shoes! I already ordered my w/f 13-14 stunning shoes collection.

With love,
Evi Karatza

Olivier Rousteing for the Balmain Collection F /W 2012,  made the women to obsesse thinking about an off-white crewneck sweater tucked into a pair of low-slung velvet pants embroidered Fabergé egg-style, in thousands of pearls and crystals AND series of stretchy dresses embroidered all over in pearls and crystals!!!  Couture, but effortless…

A Retrospective By Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent
Posted on 1-03-2012

Stefano Pilati officially stepped down from his role as creative director at Yves Saint Laurent yesterday. During his eight years at the helm of the house (preceded by four years assisting YSL’s previous designer, Tom Ford), he’s produced a rich body of work. His very first collection — a decidedly un-Ford lineup of girlish, ruffly silhouettes for spring 2005 — was widely panned, but had a great long-term impact: He’s now credited for single-handedly starting the tulip skirt trend in the mid-aughts. His last collection for YSL will walk in Paris on Monday. There’s no word yet on what he’ll do next; meanwhile, former YSL menswear designer Hedi Slimane is expected to take his place. Enjoy a comprehensive look back on Pilati’s many seasons of YSL womenswear collections.

Christopher Kane’s japanese orientalism fall 2012
Posted on 21-02-2012

A lavender world enveloped Christopher Kane’s show today as the runway and benches were decked out in a parma-violet carpet. But just when you thought this indicated a kitschy 70′s theme, out came sharp, modern black pinstripe suits, long tuxedos (some in ponyhair), loose leather trousers and smart little belts—a far cry from last season’s schoolgirl innocence.

Imperial-style dresses then emerged, pulsing with metallic wood-grain prints in deep indigo, held in place by thick black leather piping. They crossed, wrapped and knotted, hinting at a Japanese Orientalism. But Kane doesn’t do literal; he subverts it. For instance, the velvet embossing on sheer dresses and pencil skirts looked like antique tablecloths. But there was nothing antique about it. Rather, it suggested: out with the old and in with the new. A sea of reds infiltrated the second half of the show, in which Kane took the iridescent sheen of techno fabrics and magnified it to electric reds so bright they almost looked neon.
